| Description |
Frost towered over all her littermates from the day she was born. She is a very muscular she-cat with a thick yet glossy black pelt she usually keeps well-groomed. Her tail is long a bushy, and she has deep and dark sky blue eyes. Her claws are longer than most cats, and her front fangs protrude from her mouth, giving her that bat-like look. She has many scars, but all of them are covered up by her thick fur, except for one. She has a lengthy jagged scar across her right shoulder that took away some of her fur, so it is more noticeable.

| History |
Frostkit squirmed beside her sister, Winterkit. She heard another mew close by and craned her neck to see Rainkit hopping away from them and towards the den entrance. Outside was filled color: dark green grass stretched out to a rocky beach and a huge lake stretched out for miles. A single tree was bent slightly in the clearing and gave off a magical look, with the help of the cool night air and the occasional lighting bug.
“Rainkit, you aren’t hungry?” Called a stern but gentle voice. The brown dappled she-cat was curled around her two kits while the third was looking longingly outside.
“It’s so…” Rainkit started.
“…Colorful?” Pitched in Winterkit.
“…Dangerous?” Came Frostkit’s sharp mew.
“Wonderful!” Rainkit mewed, her blue eyes sparkling like two mini sapphires. “Oh, can’t we go out now?” She pleaded.
Cloud, their mother, was about to respond when a slick voice rose from outside of the den. “You wan’t to go out? I’m sure you can… I think we should get going anyways.” Gooseberry, a bluegrey tomcat, stepped into view, and Cloud’s smile faltered.
“I don’t know, Goose.” She frowned and stood to leave, much to the displeasure of the kits whom had been pressed up against her warm fur. The couple padded outside to the rocky beach and the kits huddled at the entrance to watch.
“Move it.” Frostkit hissed, swatting her smallest sister back into the den with her big paw. Rainkit huffed, pouting as she was knocked out of view. Winterkit sighed.
“There is enough room for all of us, and besides… are we even supposed to spy on them?” Winterkit queered reasonably, and Frostkit snorted.
“Please, if you don’t want to watch, you don’t have to.” The jet black kit turned her back on them and settled down to see what her parents where up to. Their quiet voices drifted over to the den…
“Gooseberry, I want to stay with them. They can grow up in the wild with me!” Cloud protested, and Gooseberry’s jaw twitched.
“You really think I would want to leave them behind, as rogues?” He hissed, and Cloud flattened her ears.
“So that is all you think of me? A rogue who doesn’t care about her own kits? You can’t take them-I won’t let you.” She growled, and her claws slid out naturally.
Gooseberry glanced towards the kits staring at them from the nursery and back to Cloud. “It’s a better life in Windclan. They would be safe there, and well-fed.” He meowed in a silky voice, but his mate was not swayed.
“If you don’t want to leave them, then stay! We don’t need a clan. We can live out here together.” Cloud explained, her eyes hopeful.
Gooseberry narrowed his eyes. “As deputy of the clan, my loyalty is to them first.”
“Then why did you come to me in the first place.” Cloud spat and turned away from him.
“I broke the code, and now I will fix my mistake by bringing new kits to the clan, with or without you.” Gooseberry meowed flatly, and padded back to the nursery, leaving Cloud alone in the clearing.
…
It was dark again, but much darker than before. The moon was hidden in the thick grey clouds, and it seemed as if even the stars did not want to witness what was happening. Gooseberry nudged Rainkit to wake, and then rose Winterkit and Frostkit. Cloud was passed out with exhaustion in the back of the den, and Winterkit was pressed up against her mother.
“Where are we going?” She whispered, wanting to stay with Cloud.
“Just go outside and I’ll tell you.” Her father muttered and picked her up, tossing her lightly out of the den. Frostkit narrowed her eyes as Rainkit was shoved outside as well.
“I’m staying here.” She hissed flatly, and Gooseberry sighed.
“No, your not. You’re coming out.” He picked her up and she thrashed.
“Let GO!” She hissed, clawing blindly.
Cloud jolted awake and was soon on her paws. “What is going on?” She snarled, and Frostkit immediately stopped struggling at the sound of her mother’s fierce meow. Rainkit and Winterkit huddled together outside.
“I told you, they belong to the clan.” Gooseberry turned and carried Frostkit outside, plopping the big kit onto the grass beside her siblings. He began padding towards the tunnel that led out of the surrounded clearing, but the kits did not follow.
“Well?” He gritted his teeth, narrowing his eyes and looking back at them.
“They are staying with me.” Cloud growled quietly, and her claws slid out. She bared her teeth at the tomcat whom she thought had loved her.
“Kits, stand back.” Gooseberry snarled, and the three siblings jumped away in terror as their parents stared coldly at each other. “I never thought it would come to this. I’ll give you two good options. Back down or come with us… if not…” He narrowed his eyes.
“Never!” Cloud hissed, and her mate let out a frustrated yowl before jumping at her, claws outstretched. She fell on her back and used her hind legs to push the tomcat over her head. Goose landed on his paws and immediately pounced again.
“Ah!” Rainkit cowered behind her sisters.
“Please, don’t fight!” Winterkit begged.
“Oh, get over it.” Frostkit rolled her eyes as her siblings hid behind her. She was the biggest kit out of the litter, already half the size of her father and still growing quickly.
Gooseberry had Cloud in a death hold, claws pricking into the she-cat’s neck and his whole body weight holding her down on her back. They were both breathing heavily and Goose’s forehead was bleeding, the fluid running into his eyes. “One last chance.” He growled, and Cloud’s deep brown eyes searched him for any sign of hesitance.
Winterkit and Rainkit stared in horror, while Frostkit started to growl. “Leave her alone.” She spat venomously, jumping to her paws.
Cloud narrowed her eyes at Gooseberry. “You have lost the trust of your own kits.” She hissed, and the tomcat was staring at Frostkit with anger. He backed off and Cloud picked herself up swiftly.
“You really think you can stop me?” He growled at Frostkit, regaining his dignity.
“Yes, I do.” Frostkit bunched her muscles. “Run!” She ordered to her sisters and Rainkit pelted out of the clearing, followed by a worried Winterkit.
Gooseberry snarled as he watched them leave, and Cloud padded over to her remaining kit. “I’d leave if I were you.” She spat to the tomcat, eyes glinting with hatred.
“I haven’t won yet.” The deputy yowled and leapt at Cloud. Frostkit jumped up and managed to shove the tomcat onto his back. She landed in a pin, but was knocked away easily by her fathers deadly claws. Her shoulder began to bleed.
“You’ll never touch my kits again!” Cloud launched at Gooseberry with such ferocity that the tomcat tried to back away, but it was too late. Her claws dug into his fur and she released him as quickly as she had attacked.
Gooseberry landed heavily on his side, a gash in his neck bleeding heavily. “Never.” He choked, then fell silent, his body limp and his eyes fixed on nothing. The spotted she-cat stepped back in momentary horror, then shook herself. She padded over to check on Frostkit, who was whimpering quietly. The bushes shook near the tunnel and Cloud knew Rainkit and Winterkit were coming back.
“Stay there.” Cloud called mournfully. “Don’t look.” She did not want her kits to see the truth…
“I’m okay, it’s just a small cut.” Frostkit shrugged, but Cloud licked it clean.
“You were so brave.” She whispered, then led all her kits out of the clearing, leaving the body of Gooseberry behind in the clearing.
They traveled for many days and eventually found themselves at a small lake with land poking into it. Cloud waded into the water with Winterkit and Rainkit on her back to reach a sandy shore, Frostkit jumping in after them. They shook themselves and padded further towards a tall waterfall.
“It’s so…” Rainkit started.
“…Colorful?” Pitched in Winterkit.
“…Dangerous?” Came Frostkit’s sharp mew.
“Wonderful!” Rainkit mewed, her blue eyes sparkling like two mini sapphires. “Can we steal a drink?” She asked her mother curiously, edging closer to the edge.
“No, we’ll take a rest at the river though.” Cloud insisted, and the group trudged for another few hours and ended up at the river’s side. A twoleg den was nestled beside them and a large contraption was spinning in the water. The kits bent their heads and lapped up the water greedily, and Cloud kept watch silently. The current was very fast today, and water occasional splashed up onto the kits, soaking their fur. Finally, they stepped away from the edge.
“Had enough?” Cloud grinned, then suddenly let out a piercing yowl as Rainkit leapt into the swift river. “No!” She jumped in after her.
“You silly kit!” Frostkit gasped, eyes wide. “Why would you do that!” She paced worriedly, and Winterkit watched in terror.
The water lapped over Cloud’s head as she struggled to find her kit. What on earth had possessed the kit to dive into the water? With a gasp, she spotted the tiny figure of Rainkit bob up to the surface, and she used all her strength to lurch forward and snatch up the kit. She choked but did not release the limp mass of fur, and her legs churned madly to get to the shore.
“Over here!” Frostkit yowled, running along the edge and signaling for Cloud to pass her Rainkit. Cloud managed to tread water against the current for a brief moment as she leaned forward to give Rain to Frost.
“Come on, come on!” Winterkit murmured in fear, coming up beside Frostkit. The jet black kit finally took hold of Rainkit’s scruff and Winterkit helped her drag the tiny kit ashore.
Frostkit cried out in fear as her mother was swept further down the river. “Mother!” She bolted along the shore.
“Take care of your sisters!” Cloud gasped and struggled against the current. She got one last look at her kits before she was drug under the surface and tumbled away in the underwater current. 3-moon-old Frostkit’s mouth went dry as she stared at the spot where her mother had disappeared. No…
…
The three cats bounded through the ever glades, each of their pelts unique and glinting in the warm sunlight. They reached the top of a hill and then rolled down, giggling like they were kits again. They tumbled down and landed in a heap in a clover patch.
“It’s so…” Rain started, staring at the gorgeous scene around them.
“…Colorful?” Pitched in Winter, eyes wild with joy.
“…Dangerous?” Came Frost’s sharp meow, and they all burst into laughter once more.
“No, no!” Heaved Rain with much difficulty. “WONDERFUL!” They all collapsed and laughed on and on for what seemed like hours.
“Oh please, it can’t be dangerous.” Winter giggled eventually, cuffing Frost over the ear.
“Anything is possible.” The 15-moon-old black she-cat shrugged, her sky blue eyes shining.
“Perhaps, perhaps.” Rain rolled onto her belly and began tearing up some clovers with one claw.
They all lay side-by-side and watched Rain dig up the clovers, occasionally giggling and stirring up more laughter.
“Oh…” Winter sighed. “If only mother could see this.”
“She would have loved it.” Rain whispered.
“Of course she would have.” Frost agreed. “She knew we would stick together always.”
Or would they?
It was a cold morning, foggy and and grey. Frost was following her sister Rain down the mountain towards the woods with Winter following behind. They quickened their pace, worried they would be attacked once more by a hidden mountain lion or perhaps even a viper. Frost’s flank was bleeding heavily on either side from their last encounter with a wild beast, and she was beginning to feel dizzy.
“We’re almost there…” Rain whispered, and let her big sister lean on her shoulder. The spotted she-cat was basically half the size of her sister, but she had enough strength to support her. Winter stepped forward to balance Frost’s other side.
“Good.” Frost grumbled, and her vision started to blur. At last they arrived to the crossing point of the river. They all jumped in together, remembering all to well of the memories that place held. They swam across easily and then shook themselves off on the other side. Their journey continued for a couple more minutes until Rain stopped at a circle of bramble dens, camouflaged to blend in to the naturalness of the forest. A thin brown tabby slipped out of one of the dens in the back and approached them, his misty grey eyes seeming to bore right through them.
“Stoneteller.” Rain sighed with relief. “Please, she needs help.” She shoved her hesitant sister forward.
“You’re blind.” Frost stated stupidly, then recovered. “Sorry.” She mumbled, but the blind tomcat did not seem to mind.
“Welcome to The Red Woods Tribe.” He smiled warmly and led them to a circular den filled with the scent of herbs and rotten fish. Winter waited outside of the den quietly.
Frost wrinkled her nose but Rain seemed to have been expecting it. “It’s… strange… but sometimes the horrid smell prevents the dying cats from falling into a sleep from which they will not arise.” She whispered into Frost’s ear. Made sense, she concluded. Who would want to die with the smell of rotten fish clinging to their nostrils?
“Right here.” The Stoneteller gestured for Frost to a moss nest, and she obliged, sitting down in it. The tabby then whisked together a mixture of herbs, some of which Frost recognized as Marigold and even honey. He popped a few poppy seeds in front of the she-cat. “For the pain.” He explained, and Frost lapped them up greedily. They tasted awful but some of the pain seemed to lessen almost immediately. Though she felt even more drowsy.
“Will she be okay?” Rain asked quietly, and the tomcat grinned.
“Of course she will!” Stoneteller finished the mixture and lay it over Frost’s wound for a dressing. Then he patted cobweb over it to stop the blood from seeping through. “You should probably stay here until you regain your strength, and I need to put more dressing on that wound tomorrow morning so it does not get infected.” The brown tabby explained, and Frost nodded politely.
“Thank you, Stoneteller.” Then she found herself drifting off to sleep.
…
“Good morning, Frost!” Beamed Winter after spotting her huge sister ducking outside of the healer’s den.
“Hey, Winter.” Frost waited as her white-furred sibling made her way past other tribe cats to stand in front of her.
“Feeling better?” She glanced at her cobweb plastered flank.
“Yes.” Frost edged away. “After all, it has been 3 days. Stoneteller told me I would be fit for travel tomorrow.” She smiled, excited to leave the responsible life of the tribe. It seemed to be just like the clans.
“Hey, you two!” Rain trotted up to them, seeming to give off a joyous aura.
“What are you so happy about.” Frost grinned and cuffed her youngest sister’s ear playfully.
Rain giggled. “Oh, it’s just great here, isn’t it?”
The she-cat twirled around in a circle, her sleek coat gleaming in the sun’s rays. A few cats stared.
Frost nudged her with her shoulder. “Crazy cat. Don’t you have something better to do?” She meowed, glaring at a few gawking tomcats. Her sister was definitely a beauty, with her unique dappled coat and sparkling green eyes.
Winter felt uncomfortable suddenly. “Really, Rain. I know you like it here-but we are leaving tomorrow, right Frost?”
“Right.” Frost nodded.
Rain’s smile twitched and switched to a confused frown. “Why so soon? Can’t we just… stay?”
Frost snorted with laughter, then realized her sister was being serious. She straightened. “Surely you can’t except us rogues to fit in with tribe life.”
Rain stiffened. “Us rogues? Well maybe I’m tired of being a rogue.”
Winter scented an argument coming on and tried to intervene before it could fully unravel. “Maybe we should all keep our voices down. I’m sure Rain will understand once we all leave tomorrow—“
“So what? You want me to just go with whatever Frost says?” Rain interrupted angrily. “Well I won’t! You two can leave, I’m staying!” She whipped around and padded deeper into the camp.
“Frost!” Winter growled suddenly, and the black she-cat rolled her eyes.
“I know, I’ll talk to her.” Frost huffed and padded after the distressed feline. She squeezed past a few cats and caught sight of her spotted sister. She was with someone… suddenly she stopped dead and her eyes widened. Rain was just head, brushing her muzzle against a tortoiseshell tomcat’s cheek, and they were purring.
“Ahem.” Frost cleared her throat, and Rain turned to face her towering sister.
“What?” She hissed, and the tomcat behind her padded up to stand alongside her.
“Oh, you must be Frost.” The cat began awkwardly. “I’m—“
“I don’t care who you are, leave my sister alone!” Frost spat and shoved Rain roughly to the side so they could talk privately, leaving the tomcat looking rather surprised. “What on earth do you think you’re doing?” She growled.
Rain was getting very red in the face. “Fine! We’ve decided to be together. There is nothing you can do to change my mind-he is a good cat.” She confessed, eyes challenging Frost to object.
Challenge accepted. “You can’t just go make friends with a tomcat when we’re leaving tomorrow!” Frost hissed.
Rain was so upset she started to cry. “Go without me! I’m staying!” She cried, and Frost stopped. A few onlookers were staring so the tall she-cat led Rain outside of the camp. Winter slipped out after them, having witnessed the whole thing.
“Rain, why didn’t you tell us?” Winter pried gently, sitting next to her sister.
“I knew you guys wouldn’t approve.” Rain frowned. “Why can’t we stay? It’s a better life here!” She begged suddenly.
Frost shifted uncomfortably. “You know I don’t fit in Rain, you knew from the beginning I would want to leave.” She mumbled, and Rain did not counter it, she just lowered her head.
“I…” Winter felt like it was up to her to save the family. “I think we should all just go, and you can visit! You can visit him whenever, we could live here in the woods!” She suggested finally, hoping her excitement for her plan would motivate them to accept it.
Rain was silent, so Frost spoke. “Live here in the woods? I… I don’t know… It would be the same as living with the tribe. We would be bound to the forest to keep the tribe out of trouble. You know cats like these have territories and all. I’m sorry… I just can’t stay here. We should all leave and stick together.”
“Don’t you understand?” Tears streaked down Rain’s face. “I love him.”
And that was the end of it. Winter and Frost would leave in the morning, while Rain would stay. Before they left, Stoneteller gave Rain a tribe name to seal the deal: Rain that came from Cloud.
…
“I can’t believe we actually left her there.” Winter spoke up from behind Frost as they padded silently in the mountains past the forest. It was the first time either of them had spoken since they had left two days ago. Since then, their travels had been slow and silent.
“You couldn’t have actually guessed that I would have chosen that life.” Frost whispered, guilt gripping her heart, making every step feel like she was burdened with a horrible weight.
“No, of course I knew you wouldn’t want to become apart of a tribe. I knew you wouldn’t want responsibility.” Winter’s words struck low blows on the black she-cat.
“Can we just stop talking about this?” Frost retorted, harsher than she had meant it. After separating with their younger sister, being alone with Winter had been almost unbearable.
“Right. Just shove everything that hurts to deal with later. Just like mother did with Gooseberry after we left.” Winter snapped, and that was the final straw.
“I said STOP!” Frost snarled and whipped around to face the white she-cat. They glared at each other, blue eyes to brown. “Just leave it!” She hissed, seething with anger and guilt and sorrow and grief. All her emotions had accidentally been poured out onto Winter.
“Fine! Be that way!” Winter cried and bounded past her.
“No, wait! Winter—I’m sorry!” Frost yowled after her and bounded in her wake, able to keep up with the light swift cat because of her long legs. She followed her further up the mountain until they both stopped at a rickety twoleg bridge that led to an oddly shaped twoleg den. “Please,” Frost had not even broken a sweat, “I’m sorry.”
“I know you are.” Winter whispered, and her eyes sparkled with tears. “But it can’t go on like this. We messed up. We should never have left Rain.” Both of their griefs were tearing them apart!
“Winter…” Frost was at a loss for words, and the white she-cat began to cross the bridge, head down and tail dragging.
The bridge swayed in the wind and a wooden slab broke off where Winter had last stepped. Frost watched in horror, and realized her sister was not paying attention. “Winter! Stop!” She called in desperation, but Winter must have thought she was calling to her for another reason, for she continued slowly with her head lowered.
“The bridge is breaking!” Frost screeched loudly, and with that, Winter craned her neck to look behind. The bridge had been falling apart after every step. “Just keep going slowly to the other side, and find another way down. Then we’ll meet below.” Frost called.
“Okay…” Their past argument seemed to have been forgotten as Winter continued to make her way cautiously across the bridge, which finally stopped breaking.
Frost sighed with relief. Too soon. The bridge made an awful snapping sound and the rope on one side broke, causing the bridge to hang by only one side. Winter was dangling dangerously, holding on to the wooden slabs. It was a far drop, with a few trees and a grassy slope below. And rocks.
“No! Winter!” Frost yowled in horror and dashed to the edge. Her sister looked up at her, sorrow in her brown eyes.
“I’m sorry…” Winter lost her grip and fell… down… down… down… Frost closed her eyes and broke down in sobs.
…
The 50-moon-old she-cat sat at the river’s edge, staring once more at the spot where her mother had disappeared under the surface. Unwanted memories of the forest and the bridge began to flood in as well. First Cloud, then I abandoned Rain… and now Winter is gone because of me. Frost thought miserably, refusing to look at her reflection. She had not groomed her coat in a while and fur stuck out at odd angles from sleepless nights and a view burrs and thorns were matted into her pelt as well. As she drifted down memory lane, a cat prowled along the shore. It stopped after seeing her and when the feline cleared it’s throat, Frost whipped around to face it in surprise.
“Why, hello there.” A redish-brown tomcat grinned at her. "I'm Redborn."
"Hm."
She met Redborn before he joined Nightclan, then he joined and she was considering about joining as well… but didn’t.
And now she wanders about, looking for her family.
When she comes of age... She will be looking for a good death. She wants to die with honor, not as an old cat who couldn't take care of itself.
